Do you remember "The Karate Kid" in 1984?
The original Karate Kid was a big hit movie about 30 years
ago. Last week I had a chance to watch the 2010 remake,
and it made me think: no matter where you are, you have to
overcome the situation. The main character, Dre tries to
adjust himself to a new environment, from Detroit where he
lived to Beijing for his mom's job transfer.
He learns kung fu techniques with no punches and
power. That is a key to master the martial arts.
Despite maintaining the original title, the 2010 remake
does not feature karate, which is from Okinawa, but focuses
on the main character learning kung fu in China.
My son is now interested in battling with his buddies
by toy swords or toy guns. He watched this movie
seriously. If he could understand the sprit of kung fu,
which teaches the importance of justice and moral
sense, it would be worth better than just watching.
